Proton x70 – what malaysians say?



Proton’s much anticipated firs Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) X70 was launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad after months of anticipation on Wednesday, December 12.

So what say you Malaysians? MUV has go on the field and garnered mix reactions from Malaysians.

A 29-year-old engineer, said she is so thrilled with Proton’s first SUV.

“I haven’t see it yet but as a Malaysian, I’m so proud and thrilled to see it on the road, soon,” she told MUV.

For Muhammad Hasnul Abdul Razak, he hopes that Proton will produce more cars with this kind of quality in the future.

“I went to Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2018 and has seen it with my family.

“Frankly speaking, I’m really impressed with the interior of X70. I wouldn’t expect it to be so exclusive,” said Muhammad Hasnul.

A businessman, only wished to be known as Lim said he would definitely buy the X70 to support the Malaysian automotive industry.

“For me, the quality is similar in compared to other international cars,” he said.

As for the pricing, everyone has been waiting for its PRICE! Priced from RM99,800 in Peninsular Malaysia as well as Sabah and Sarawak, all four variants of the X70 will be powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged, gasoline direct injection (TGDI) engine producing a maximum 181 hp and 285 Nm of torque.



The Standard 2WD at RM99,800, the Executive 2WD at RM109,800, the Executive AWD at RM115,800 and the Premium 2WD at RM123,800. All prices, identical in East and West Malaysia, are on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a new unlimited-mileage warranty (still at five years).

Based on the Geely Boyue, the first units come fully imported (CBU) from China, with a CKD locally-assembled model coming next year.

The sole transmission option is a six-speed automatic, sending power to either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on specification. Proton completing the X70 looks with alloy wheels measuring 17 inches on the Standard variant, 18 inches on the Executive and 19 inches on the Premium.



Starting from the base Standard 2WD (RM 99,800), equipment includes:

  • 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with natural language, contextual voice control (“Hi Proton” commands)

As for the Executive 2WD (RM 109,800), this variant adds:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Leatherette seats
  • Power adjustable driver seat
  • Auto-dimming rear view mirror
  • 360-degree surround view camera
  • 8 speakers

The sole Executive AWD (RM 115,800) variant adds:

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Sitting at the top of the Proton X70 range is the Premium 2WD model (RM 123,800), which adds:

    • Forward Collision Warning
    • Adaptive cruise control
    • Lane Departure Warning
    • Blind Spot Information System
    • Intelligent High Beam Control

  • 9 speakers, including power amplifier and subwoofer

Step inside, you will find an interior that is derived from the Boyue, with its exclusive-modern look dashboard (inspired by the Hangzhou Bay Bridge in China, apparently), a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a tall centre console.



The coolest feature is the voice control system that uses artificial intelligence technology. X70 is using the activation term, “Hi Proton”, where users can control a whole host of vehicular functions, such as the climate control, music playback, navigation and even the windows and sunroof.

The system will recognise natural language. If the driver command “it’s too cold,” for instance, it will raise the air-con temperature by one degree.



As for the colours on offer, the Standard variant is only available in Snow White and Armour Silver, while the Executive 2WD gains Jet Grey and Cinnamon Brown hues, the Executive AWD model is only offered in white and grey. The Premium is the only one to come with the full range of colours, including the exclusive Flame Red.
